Upon arriving home from the day's activities:
Colin: "I call the computer."
Audrey: "I call the Nook."
Claire: "I call the iPad."
Colin: "We take take every opportunity to for screen time!"
What can I say? They speak for themselves!
Well, I can speak a bit to the background:
This occurred after I told them that we'd stop using screen devices after dinner. I'd also mentioned that there are good ways to engage with those devices that can help us exercise our brains (in moderation). But I also emphasized that there are other good ways to exercise our brains as well (rumpusing in the yard, reading, board games, helping me out around the house, being kind to one another, etc.).
This chat (they will probably call it a lecture in time!) was inspired in part by a post from child development and parenting expert Tina Bryson:
Should I Let My Child Be On Facebook?
Sounds like our house. I like the idea about no screens/devices after dinner. Maybe I will start serving dinner at 4pm.
